2025 Holiday Block Party

What is your favorite block? Do you love traditional piecing or paper piecing? Is applique your thing? Do you love a modern look? Do you have a favorite holiday design? You can share your passion with the guild by sponsoring a Holiday Block!

The Holiday Block Committee (Jan Chvatal, Laura Nelson, and Karen Wahle) is asking individuals, bees, or groups of friends to sponsor a Holiday Block this year.  Contact us at information@capitalquilters.org.

HERE IS HOW THE PARTY WORKS

If you would like to sponsor a block, here is the process:

Sponsors commit to participate by September 11th. Sponsors design a block (or blocks) to make a quilt top and submit a registration form to have the block approvedRegistrations can be submitted through the registration button below, in person at the August or September Guild meeting, or emailed to information@capitalquilters.org.

After approval, sponsors kit the instructions and the fabrics for the blocks to sell at the October and November Guild meetings. Sponsors must be represented at the October and November meetings to sell their blocks.

Kits will be sold at the October and November meetings for $2 each.

Sponsors will draw a winner for each block at the December meeting and the winner gets all the finished blocks as well as any unsold kitsParticipants get to keep the instructions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Do the blocks have to be holiday-themed?

A. No, they do not.Choose any design and any colors you wantThe blocks are turned in and awarded to the winner at the December meeting.

Q. Are the costs of making the kits covered?

A. You may submit a reimbursement form (supplied on request) for a maximum of $25. Many groups and individuals choose to donate some, or all of the fabric required to make the kits, but you are certainly not required to do so. You can obtain fabric from the Guild stash; to do so contact Roberta Miller-Haraway.

Q. What techniques are appropriate for Holiday Blocks?

A. All techniques and skill levels are welcomeGenerallyrelatively simple designs with appealing colors/ fabrics are popular. In the past, we have had simple piecing, paper piecing, appliqué or even some combination of the above.

 Q. How many blocks per sponsored design?

A. Typically, between 12 to 25 kitsHowever, a kit may contain one to four blocks..

Q. How many sponsored designs will be sold?

A. Our goal is 10 to 12 different designspreferably representing a wide variety of techniquesstylesand difficulty levels.

Q. If I want to sponsor a block, can I get started right away?

A. Do not spend any money for which you will want to be reimbursed until your design is approved. First you must submit a registration form with a color image of the block design(A clearbut simple drawing will do.) This is to prevent duplicate (or near duplicate) blocks.
