    Nanette Zeller Workshop
    Paint with Thread

    February 21, 2025 9:00-3:30, Highland UMC

Thread painting, frequently referred to as free-motion embroidery, adds color and texture to a quilt or wall-hanging. This workshop teaches basic techniques  needed to color with thread using a sewing machine. In a hands-on process,  Nanette will show students how to successfully use fabrics, stabilizers, and  threads in their thread painting projects. Students will learn techniques to layer  and blend thread colors. Tips will be presented to help students develop their  own style and use their newly found free-motion embroidery skills in their  quilting projects.

    Nanette Zeller Workshop

    Three-Dimensional Thread Painting

    February 22, 2025 9:00-3:30, Highland UMC

This class will be a custom-made class for our guild. Nanette will use water soluble and firm stabilizers to make thread painted elements. These elements can be stitched flat onto a quilt so they have a raised surface. Or, if you stitch the butterfly onto the quilt sewing just through the body, the wings would not be attached to the quilt and would sit away from the surface. Imagine the possibilities: leaves, birds, insects, trees, plants, architectural elements. The list is endless!
