This summer all fabric will be provided and we will be making a Square in a Square in a Square block
Cut one (1) 6 ½ inch square from the flowered fabric provided by Bock Party.
Cut two (2) 5 ¼ inch squares from the smaller of the two fabrics provided by Block Party – either green or purple. Cut the 2 squares in half diagonally to create 4 triangles. This fabric will be used 1st in the directions.
Cut two (2) 7 inch squares from the larger of the two fabrics provided by Block Party – either green or purple. Cut the 2 squares in half diagonally to create 4 triangles. This fabric will be used 2nd in the directions
Fold the flowered fabric in half twice and finger press creases to show the center of the block.
Take the 4 smaller triangles created from the 5 ¼ inch squares and fold in half and crease these as well.
Match the creases of the triangles and square and sew two opposite sides first. (Figure 1) Press the seams toward the outside. Finish the square by sewing the other 2 triangles to the remaining sides. Figure 2. Press the seams to the outside.
You will now have a new square. Trim this square to measure 9 inches.
Using the 4 larger triangles created from the 7 inch square repeat the process to sew the triangles to each side to the square.
Please do not square up your block. Turn in your block and your name on a small piece of paper in at the July, August or September meeting for the drawing in September. Good Luck!!
