You will need a 5 ½ inch by 20 inch strip of white fabric from your stash for the background of the block.
- Cut one 5 inch square from the purple fabric provided by block party.
- Cut one 5 inch square from your white background fabric.
- Cut five 3 inch squares from the purple fabric provided by block party.
- Cut five 3 inch squares from your white background fabric.
Make two big half-square triangles from the 5 inch squares and 10 half-square triangles from
the 3 inch squares.
- Place a purple square right sides together with a white square.
- Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the background fabric (solid line in diagram 1).
- Sew 1/4 inch from each side of the drawn line (dotted lines in diagram 1 ).
- Cut the squares apart on the drawn line to get 2 half-square triangles.
- Press the seams open for ease in construction.
- Trim the bigger squares to 4 ½ inches and the smaller squares to 2 ½ inches.
You will have enough pieces to make two squares. Place the half-square triangles in place
like Diagram 2 and sew your pieces together using ¼ inch seams.
Diagram 3 show one way to place these blocks in a quilt.
The blocks will finish at 6 inches (unfinished at 6 ½ inches).
Please do not square up your blocks. Turn in your blocks and your name on a
small piece of paper in at the November meeting for the drawing. Good Luck!!
