October 2013 Block Party Pattern

Pinwheel with Half Square Triangles

This month we will make an easy pinwheel block made from 4 half-square triangles.

PinWheelBlockParty

  • Cut two (2) 7 inch blocks from the neutral fabric provided by Block Party.
  • Pick one bright fabric from your stash.
  • Cut two (2) 7 inch blocks from your fabric.
  • Place the neutral squares right sides together with your squares.
  • Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the neutral fabric (solid line in diagram).
  • Sew 1/4 inch from each side of the drawn line (dotted lines in diagram).
  • Cut the squares apart on the drawn line to get 2 half-square triangles.
  • Press the seam to the darker color and trim all 4 half-square triangles to 6 1/2 inches.
  • Place the blocks like the diagram below.
  • Sew the blocks together with a 1/4 inch seam for a block measuring 12 1/2 inches.
  • Please do not square up your block. Turn your block in at the November meeting. Good Luck!!
