This month we will make an Spool block with a black background fabric. The brown spool
fabric and the thread color will come from your stash.

From the black background fabric:
1. Cut two (2) 4 ½ inch squares
2. Cut two 5 X 4 inch rectangles

From your brown fabric:
1. Cut two (2) 4 1/2 inch squares
2. Cut two (2) 5 X 4 inch rectangles.

From your thread fabric:
1. Cut one (1) 5 inch square

Make two (2) 4 inch half-square triangles from the black background fabric and your
brown 4 ½ inch squares.

Place the squares right sides together.

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the fabric (solid line in diagram).
Sew 1/4 inch from each side of the drawn line (dotted line in diagram).
Cut the squares apart on the drawn line to get 2 half-square triangles.
Press the seam to the darker color and trim all 4 half-square triangles to 4 inches.

Layout the half-square triangles and the 4 X 5 inch rectangles like the diagram below and
complete your block. It should measure 12 inches when complete.

Please do not square up your block. Turn in your block and your name on a
small piece of paper in at the June meeting for the drawing. Good Luck!!
