Welcome to Block Party!

Block party is one of the staples of the Capital Quilters Guild.  Every month there is at least one block for you to make and return the following month.

At the meeting there is a sample of the block, directions, and sign-up sheets.  Participants can take a photo of the directions or access them on Facebook, or through the newsletter.

Kits of the fabrics to be used are available for free, and participants sign up to make the block, which is then returned at the next monthly meeting.  All participants who return the block the next month are entered into a drawing for the returned blocks.  The winner can then use the blocks to complete a quilt or whatever else works for them.  Many of these quilts are submitted to our charity quilt program, although this is not a requirement.

The 2024-25 year has been deemed The Year of Fun! We plan to release blocks that will stretch our skill sets, and use of color, and are fun to make. 

In April we a paper pieced block called Scrappy Rose.  Kits contained all of the flower and leaf fabrics, and participants were asked to supply the background.  The winners were announced at the May meeting and were Joyce Bubar and Pat Yahner.

Our May block was an Eye-Spy block.  Participants were asked to add their own "eye-spy" element to form the window in a house block.  Don't forget to turn in your completed blocks at our June meeting for your chance to win enough blocks to make an entire quilt.

Our final offering of the 2024/2025 Year of Fun is a set of blocks (see below.)  The pieced snail's trail block and the appliqué sailing boat block go together to create a fun baby or kid quilt.  So even if appliqué is not your thing, you can still participate!  Use the green links below the pictures below to reach the instructions for each block, which you can print out for your own use.

Our Capital Quilters Guild 2025–2026 year kicks off in July, and it’s time to start thinking about Block Party!  This year, I’d love to include blocks nominated by you, our talented Guild members.  Do you have a favorite go-to block?  Is there a design you’ve admired for years but haven’t had a chance to try?  Or maybe there’s a block you think would be fun for others to make?  Now’s your chance to share it!
