May 2014 Block Party Pattern

This month we will make a Patriotic Star block.

Pick out a blue fabric from your stash.

1. Cut four (4) 4 inch squares and four (4) 3 1/2 inch squares from the red fabric provided
by Block Party.

2. Cut four (4) 4 inch squares from the white fabric provided by Block Party.

3. Cut four (4) 4 inch squares from your blue fabric.
Use the 4 inch squares for the half-square triangles.

Make 4 red/blue half-square triangles with 2 red squares and 2 blue squares.
Make 4 red/white half-square triangles with 2 red squares and 2 white squares.
Make 4 blue/white half-square triangles with 2 blue squares and 2 white squares.

Place the squares right sides together.
Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the fabric.
Sew 1/4 inch from each side of the drawn line.
Cut the squares apart on the drawn line to get 2 half-square triangles.

Press the seam to the darker color and trim all 12 half-square triangles to 3 1/2 inches.

Place the blocks like the diagram below. Sew the blocks together with a 1/4 inch seam for a

block measuring 12 1/2 inches.

Please do not square up your block. Turn in your block and your name on a
small piece of paper in at the June meeting for the drawing.. Good Luck!!
